In our last few CBD reviews, we’ve mostly talked about tinctures, capsules, and edibles that have various strengths and flavors. Today we’re going to steer away from the consumable type of CBD and check out a topical form of CBD: the Back & Neck Pain Relief Ointment from CBD Medic! This type of CBD product is intended to soothe aching muscles in your neck and back, something that athletes and blue-collar workers experience on a daily basis. Let’s check out this product and explore a unique way to get relief from aches and pains.

Quality 

All of CBD Medic’s products contain wholesome natural ingredients to provide a premium and highly effective pain relief alternative to traditional medicine. They guarantee that their products are THC-free, non-psychoactive, and pose no threat to those required to submit drug tests for employment. The legal limit for THC in any CBD product is 0.3%, and CBD Medic conforms to those requirements in each and every one of their products.

This deep-rub ointment targets discomfort and soreness in your shoulders, waistline, neck, and lower back, but it can be used for any particular sore spot on your neck and back. You can use it for fast and effective relief for muscle soreness, sprains, strains, and even bruises! The use of frankincense and myrrh oil made me extremely curious about the scent of this ointment, as those two rich ingredients are used in perfumes and are part of the trio of gifts that we sing about on Christmas. But we’ll get to the scent test momentarily! Let’s finish up a few more things about the company and we’ll dive right into the actual review of the product. 

The website is professional and inviting, with information on CBD for beginners, an informative up-to-date blog, and a well-written About Us that thoroughly explains why CBD Medic should be your one and only stop for topical CBD products.

The Deep Rub Ointment comes in a very professional looking box that looks like it came right out of the pharmacy. The company logo on the front reminded me of the caduceus (the doctor symbol of two snakes on a pole), but with a hemp plant at the top instead of the snakeheads. A little stamp on the top right corner certified that there was no THC and that this product is non-psychoactive. The company name (CBD Medic) along with the words Revolutionary and Safe marked clearly below. This particular 40g deep-rub ointment is meant to treat pain in the back and neck, with all-natural ingredients. On the left side of the box, it shows how CBD Medic created this product, along with the strict standards it was created with. On the back of the box, it shows all of the natural oils and extracts, as well as the particular amount (CBD extract 200mg, clove oil >200mg, jojoba oil >400mg, etc.). It also states that their CBD is from the Cannabis sativa L plant, but will not get you high nor cause you to fail a drug test. The company also promises that their product is free of artificial dyes, parabens, steroids, phthalates, petrolatum, and synthetic fragrances. Lastly, on the right of the package, it shows all of the drug facts, such as the active ingredients (camphor 10% and menthol 15%), inactive ingredients, uses, warning, and directions. 

Lab Testing

CBD Medic provides third-party independent lab testing for all of its products. You can either scan the QR code on any of their products or click on the Lab Results CoA tab at the bottom of the website. From there, you can click on the specific product you wish to see the results of and view the results by lot number. Click on any of the lot numbers and you’ll be redirected to a PDF document within the window.

Experience 

I broke the protective seal on the top of the box and was surprised to see that the small tube of ointment was secured to the package via cardboard inserts. Once I removed those, I inspected the actual tube. It was a lot smaller than I expected, so the large box is a little misleading. The information on the front and rear of the tube was the same as the front and right side of the box, in slightly different font colors. I unscrewed the cap and noted that there was a silver aluminum seal on the tube, showing that no one had used or tampered with it before I opened it. I  used my nail to scrape and peel off the seal, and was surprised to immediately smell a strong scent of camphor and menthol, much like Tiger Balm or Vicks VapoRub. I gently squeezed the side of the tube and noted that the gel was very thick and clear. Even though the gel was room temperature, it felt warm in my fingers (probably due to the menthol) and as soon as I rubbed some on the back of my neck, I felt a tingling sensation. Almost immediately I could feel the rub start to soothe my aching neck, and the warmth of the gel made me want to fall asleep! After about 2 minutes, I went to touch my neck to see if the gel was still slippery and was shocked to feel that my neck was dry! I rubbed a tad bit harder on my neck and could feel a tiny bit of residue where the ointment had absorbed into my skin, but aside from that, my neck was dry. This is great because I have long hair and I really don’t want my hair to smear the rub or soak into my hair. 

 I loved that this deep rub-ointment penetrates quickly and dries in a matter of minutes. I also loved the warming sensation on my neck and I could feel the gel soaking into my sore muscles. The packaging was superb and extremely professional, both on the box and on the tube itself. The only thing I wasn’t really happy with is how small the bottle was compared to the price. At around $1 per gram, this would be something I’d use sparingly, but I was very impressed that it worked so quickly and effectively. Lastly, one thing I will warn you is to use rubber gloves when using this product. I’ve used methylated gels before and trying to wash off that stuff with just soap and water can be a frustrating hassle. 

Price vs Value 

This ointment from CBD Medic is listed on their website https://cbd-medic.com/ for $39.99. Granted, the tube is only a 40g for 200mg, (about the size of a bottle of toothpaste), so this might seem a bit expensive if you plan on using it frequently. I was a little disappointed that there was only one size available and that there wasn’t any option to subscribe and save more for recurring purchases.

Conclusion

For such a small product, this deep-rub ointment works in a big way! From the incredibly informative website to the power of the actual product, I must say this is an excellent CBD product that you can use to target specific areas. A lot of CBD products are intended to alleviate depression, anxiety, stress, PTSD, and minor pains, but certain topicals (like CBD Medic’s Back & Neck Deep-Rub Ointment) are wonderful to spot treat the sore areas on your body. I really appreciated how quickly the product worked and how effective it was in relieving my neck pain. I have several people that I’ll be referring to trying this deep-rub ointment, and I urge you to get a tube for yourself!
