Colorado Botanicals Review by Leah Johnson at CBD Origin
When it comes from Colorado, you know it has to be good! That’s exactly where the products for this review are from today: Colorado Botanicals! Each of their products are packed with wholesome CBD and come in a variety of different items, but today we’ll be reviewing a tincture and a salve. Tinctures are extremely popular in the CBD world and they come in all sorts of strengths and flavors. Salves are a form of a topical product and are becoming more and more popular for people who have trouble swallowing capsules or don’t like the taste of CBD. Let’s check out these two products and see what Colorado Botanicals has to offer in their tincture and salve!
Colorado Botanicals Quality
Colorado Botanicals provides third-party independent lab testing; you can easily access those results using the QR code on all of their packaging or on their website. Their CBD extraction method utilizes cold extraction on the plant, flower, and bud for maximum potency and purity. The website https://cobocbd.com/ is professionally designed and provides a plethora of information on their testing, extraction methods, and hemp sources. One thing I loved about the company is their explanation of their methods and how they differ from other companies.
Colorado Botanicals Lab Tests
750mg Broad Spectrum CBD Oil
The dark stained bottles come in a 30mL size and contain 750mg of organically grown broad spectrum CBD. There isn’t a specifically recommended amount of CBD to take since CBD works differently with every individual. The bottle has a graduated dropper that is extremely helpful to determine how much CBD you’re taking in a single dropperful. The tincture is listed as peppermint, which is wonderfully accurate. You can smell a strong rich flavor of peppermint even with the bottle fully closed. I eagerly filled the dropper up to 0.75mg (the max is 1mg, but the dropper couldn’t suck up that much liquid) and carefully released it under my tongue.
The tincture contains organic broad spectrum extract, MCT oil (which contains coconut, so allergy users beware), and naturally flavored peppermint oil. Upon first tasting the tincture, there was a smooth and powerful peppermint that slightly intensified the longer I let it rest underneath my tongue. There was a faint undertone of hemp that was pleasant and very smooth. The texture was silky and less oily than other tinctures I’ve tried. It was very easy to hold the tincture under my tongue for several seconds and left a mentholated cooling sensation under my tongue The flavor when I swallowed was definitely more of a hemp flavor and there was a mentholated sensation in the back of my throat that lasted for at least thirty seconds, quite a bit longer than other tinctures I’ve tried.
Tincture Flavor
I loved that the peppermint was smooth and refreshing, not overpowering or aggressive with the aftertaste. The hemp flavor was very pleasant as well, just a slight aftertaste that rested just underneath the peppermint flavor. In terms of scent, flavor, and ease of use, this tincture performed well on all counts. The tincture was smooth and had consistent viscosity with each dropperful. One thing that surprised me was the color. It was almost complete clear. Most tinctures I’ve tried are yellow or brown; the fact that this was clear was a pleasant surprise and made it seem more organic.
500mg Alleviate Salve
Now that we’ve described the tincture, it’s time to move on to the salve! This was an interesting product to try because of the type of product it is. I’ve tried CBD lotions before, but never salves. I loved this product for the strong mentholated scent (it reminded me of Vicks VapoRub) and the simplicity of applying. There are two salves listed on Colorado Botanicals’ website; today we’ll be looking at the Alleviate Salve. The salve is contained in a darkly stained glass jar and weighs about 2 fl. oz. Each jar has 500mg of hemp-infused salve and has instructions to apply to the affected area as needed. Keep in mind, this product is not intended for consumption and should not be applied to open wounds, broken skin, or near the eyes.
My first reaction upon opening the jar was that it was extremely strong. The first ingredient is aqua isopropyl alcohol, so be prepared for some mild eye-watering. The other ingredients are those you’d find in mentholated salves (Aqua Isopropyl Alcohol, Menthol, Carbomer, Triethanolamine, Camphor Ethylhexylglycerin, Ilex Paraguariensis, Melaleuca Alternifolia, Essential Oil (Tea Tree Oil), Tocopheryl Acetate, Organic Aloe Vera, Organic Arnica, Phenoxyethanol, Broad Spectrum Extract). There was an intense similarity to Tiger Balm in both texture and scent, but now you get the added benefit of broad spectrum CBD!
Experience
The menthol was very strong and overpowering, but sometimes that’s what you want in a salve. The application process was unique because although it looks like something you can scoop out with your finger, the actual salve is very oily. When I touched it, it simply oozed away and my finger was coated in the salve’s oil. I was able to spread the oil liberally across the area (I used the back of my hand for the test pass). The oil was absorbed quickly into my skin and I felt a gentle tingling in the area I had coated. The tingling was pleasant and made me feel like it was working even though I had used a light smear instead of the actual jelly. The tingling slightly intensified as my skin absorbed it, so keep that in mind if you use this in the morning and forget that you put it on! I’d recommend this for use right before bed as a relaxer for sore muscles, but you can use it whenever you think you need it!
Colorado Botanicals Price vs Value
The tincture was priced at $60.00 for a one-time purchaseThe salve is listed as $50 on the website as a one time purchase price. But if you subscribe to a monthly purchase, you can save 15% on each item.

Should You Try Colorado Botanicals?
Overall, I was very pleased with this company’s CBD products. Their packaging was calming and clean, with white and green as their colors. Their font was easy to read and both the salve and the tincture looked like premium expensive products that you’d find in health food stores. The company has been around since 2017 and all of their products are packed sustainably with cardboard instead of styrofoam or plastics (save for the security seal on the tincture). I was delighted to use these products. This was my first time using a CBD salve and I was truly pleased with how well it worked. If you’re looking for an organically grown broad spectrum CBD product that may assist you with a wide variety of ailments (PTSD, anxiety, depression, pain from joint aches and muscle soreness, etc.), I highly encourage you to check out these products.
