After years of suffering from a painful tissue disorder known as endometriosis, BuzzFeed editor, Lara Parker, found relief in medical cannabis.

Lara is from a small town in Indiana and now lives in Los Angeles, writing on topics like female empowerment and societal issues. Recently featured on Forbes, Lara has recently signed a book deal with St. Martin’s Press for her book, Vagina Problems, a collection of essays that discuss the daily struggles of living with endometriosis.

According to the Mayo Clinic, “With endometriosis, the endometrial-like tissue acts as endometrial tissue would — it thickens, breaks down and bleeds with each menstrual cycle. Surrounding tissue can become irritated, eventually developing scar tissue and adhesions — abnormal bands of fibrous tissue that can cause pelvic tissues and organs to stick to each other.”

After trying more traditional medical methods to find relief, her partner, who used cannabis to alleviate his migraines, suggested giving cannabis a try.

“I had nothing to lose, so I tried it,” Lara says. “I immediately felt my body relax. I was less aware of my pain. I felt lighter, happier. And I also felt hungry — a sensation I hadn’t really experienced in a long time since one of my biggest symptoms is nausea and stomach swelling, which often causes an inability to eat.”

GUESS WHAT! I’m writing a fucking book about my vagina (and all of its problems) #VaginaProblems will be out in 2020 and yes, the petty part of me *does* want to send a signed copy to all the doctors who told me my pain was all in my head! pic.twitter.com/NkO6X7Npvn

While media influencers sometimes push trending issues, like cannabis, as a means to stimulate more views, prior to her story, Lara had not been a cannabis user and turned to it as a last resort. Ever since then, she hasn’t stopped sharing her experiences with her readers.

In her book, Lara discusses a variety of ways that women can alleviate the symptoms of endometriosis, and cannabis products like CBD and THC suppositories are among her primary suggestions.

Vagina Problems is set to debut in October of 2020. Stay up to date on the latest details and learn more about Lara Parker and her latest stories by following her on twitter @laraparker
